I’m just waiting in line for coffee
Watching pictures on the backlit screen.
Seems like everybody’s coming here from somewhere else
Hoping they’re gonna get seen.
This one’s got a smile half a mile wide,
That one musta just ate stones,
This one’s a Muppets Christmas Present,
That one’s just skin and bones.
The light screen flickers over and over,
A face for every day of the week.
By the time I get to the front of the line
Don’t want to hear any one of them speak.
‘Cause this one’s got a smile half a mile wide,
That one musta just ate stones,
This one’s a Muppets Christmas Present,
That one’s just skin and bones.
Glad my face isn’t up on that sreeen
With a date underneath my name.
Don’t want to be coming here from somewhere else,
Don’t want to make a claim to fame.
Just want to get a cup of coffee,
Go out and sip it under a tree,
Let all those faces wait for somebody else
While I sit here with me.
‘Cause this one’s got a smile half a mile wide,
That one musta just ate stones,
This one’s a Muppets Christmas Present,
That one’s just skin and bones.
Just want to get a cup of coffee,
Go out and sip it under a tree,
Let all those faces wait for somebody else
While I sit here with me.

Next To You
04:11
|
|||
Well, today I'll wend my way
through next to nothing,
say please and thank you,
pardon me, how do you do.
But I won't feel the way
I did yesterday
'cause last night, had a dream
I was lying next to you.
You smiled, turned your head my way,
said any day now you'd be coming home to stay,
reached out and touched my hand,
said I'd always be your man.
Now I can't remember yesterday.
I spent half my life pursuing women
liked to keep you dangling on a string.
Ever since you left I think I'm doing
pretty much the same damn thing.
But last night, had a dream
you were lying next to me,
smiled when you turned your head my way,
reached out and held my hand,
said I'd always be your man.
Now I can't remember yesterday
Yeah, today I'll wend my way
through next to nothing
say please and thank you,
pardon me, how do you do.
But I won't feel the way
I did yesterday
'cause tonight
in my dreams
I'll be lying next to you.
But I won't feel the way
I did yesterday
'cause tonight
in my dreams
I'll be lying next to you.

Everything Ends Up Swell
02:28
|
|||
I like watchin’ old movies;
Everything ends up swell.
The guy and girl get together.
The villains go to hell.
Glenn Ford wins Rita Hayworth’s heart;
Humphrey Bogart wins Lauren Bacall.
Cary Grant and anyone else:
He always wins them all.
But life’s not like old movies;
Never know what the story’s about.
The guy and the girl can’t seem to connect;
If they do it doesn’t work out.
Ford’s always fighting with Bogart,
Hayworth hates Bacall.
Cary Grant is old and alone
Smelling of alcohol.
That’s why I watch old movies
Here on the couch by myself.
I just never seemed to have much luck
Out there with everyone else,
The dialogue is never much more
Than misspelled texts on a phone.
And I pretty much know before I start
I’ll be back here on this couch alone.
So, I like watchin’ old movies.
The villains go straight to hell.
The guy and girl’ll get together.
Everything ends up swell.
The guy and the girl get together.
Everything ends up swell.

Today I Woke Up Sane
03:51
|

Well, they say the definition of crazy:
You do the same thing day after day
And expect it to work out different
Just because you want it that way.
So it didn’t work out like I wanted.
I guess I shouldn’t complain.
I was crazy about you yesterday.
Today I woke up sane.
Can’t seem to help who I fall in love with.
My heart has a mind of its own.
But I’m old enough to know now
The difference between here and gone.
They say you can’t get blood from a turnip,
Can’t get water from a stone,
And you can’t ever be together with someone
Who’d rather be alone.
You have all the love you could ever want,
Pours in free now from everywhere;
So much you can’t even see it.
You have love like mine to spare.
But mine is all I have
And all I have to share.
I can’t make you take it,
I can’t make you care.
.
They say the definition of crazy:
You do the same thing day after day
And expect it to work out different
Just because you want it that way.
So it didn’t work out like I wanted.
I guess I shouldn’t complain.
I was crazy about you yesterday.
Today I woke up sane.
I was crazy about you yesterday.
Today I woke up sane.

Just One More Day
05:20
|
|||
Sweet angel, come with me,
Walk beside me on my way,
All these fears, all this sorrow,
Walk beside me just one more day.
I don’t need to know the answers,
No words of wisdom, you might say,
Just a friend to stand beside me
Just a gentle hand to guide me
On my way, just one more day.
They say that light will drive out darkness.
They say that dawn will conquer night.
They even say it’s easy,
See the difference, wrong from right.
They must not know this road I’m taking,
Must not know the deepest shade.
They must not know of death's great valley,
Must not ever be this afraid.
I don’t need to know the answers,
No words of wisdom, you might say,
Just a friend to stand beside me
Just a gentle hand to guide me
On my way, just one more day.
There are places on this journey
Never see the light of day,
Where we walk in total silence,
Forgetting even how to pray.
All we need then is a good friend,
Stand beside us for a while.
Angel, come walk with me,
Just one more day, just one more mile.
I don’t need to know the answers,
No words of wisdom, you might say,
Just a friend to stand beside me
Just a gentle hand to guide me
On my way, just one more day. (3 times)

Tick-tock,Tick-tock
02:37
|
|||
One plate on the table,
one pair of shoes by the door,
one less everything,
one night more.
Time goes by,
heals wounds they say.
Tick-tock, tick-tock,
one more day.
Hang up the clothes,
sweep up the floor,
keep up a good front,
one night more.
Time goes by,
heals wounds they say.
Tick-tock, tick-tock,
one more day.
Turn down the covers,
turn down the light,
turn down a long, dark road
one more night.
Time goes by,
heals wounds they say.
Tick-tock, tick-tock,
one more day.
Tick-tock, tick-tock,
one more day.
