I just stopped by to say hi
driving through
on my way to see
somebody else I once knew.
Must be half a lifetime
since I last saw you.
You made some coffee,
we spent an hour or two
just laughing out loud
at the things we used to do.
Nothing that happens in the crazy world
ever seems to happen on cue.
We plan and schedule as if it makes sense,
but we never really have a clue.
I'm pretty sure I won't get to see

at a diner down the street
